Ingredients

- Sour Cream - this is the main base for the dip. Any sour cream or even plain Greek yogurt will give you a delicious result.
- Mayonnaise - ensure you use a true mayonnaise and not a sweetened salad dressing spread as this will overpower the flavors of the dip.
- Lemon Juice - using fresh squeezed lemon juice can really make all the difference in this dip. It's much lighter and vibrant than store bought bottled lemon juice.
- Dill - fresh dill is of course the preference but I have used fresh, dried or even frozen dill and all produce a delightful dip.

Substitutions
- Low Fat - for a slimmer version of this dip feel free to use low fat or fat free sour cream or you could also use plain Greek yogurt.
- Egg-less - there are many egg-free versions of mayonnaise available.
- Dairy-free - there are many dairy-free plain yogurts available that you can use in place of the sour cream. Ensure you find an unsweetened one. Alternatively, you can use just vegan-mayonnaise for the entire dip and add a little extra lemon juice.
Variations
- Garlic - add freshly minced garlic or roasted garlic for deeper, savory flavor.
- Spicy - stir in a pinch of cayenne, crushed red pepper flakes or a spoonful of horseradish for heat. A splash of hot sauce works too.
- Greek Style - add grated cucumber (squeezed fry and a touch of garlic for tzatziki-inspired twist.
- Herb Garden - use fresh chives, parsley or basil to make it extra herby and vibrant.
Try adding ½-1 teaspoon of my Blackened Seasoning recipe for a bold spicy twist!
Storage
The first few days: This Dill Dip Recipe can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
Freezing: I would not recommend freezing this recipe.
Top Tip
It can be hard to keep fresh dill on hand or find it in the stores, particularly out of season. To remedy this I recommend freezing your fresh dill. Pull the "leaves" from the stalk and place small portions in individual bags. Freeze for later use, grabbing a small bag as needed. No need to thaw, just chop and add it to your dip.
FAQ
Yes! In fact, it tastes even better after chilling for 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Yes. I've suggested using about 1.5 tablespoons for this recipe. Let the dip rest longer so the dried herbs can soften and bloom.
This can happen if using low-fat yogurt or sour cream or if the fresh herbs release moisture. Try using full-fat ingredients or chilling of longer before serving if low-fat is desired.
